Bill Pinel grew up playing hockey in Southern California where he played AAA hockey for the Los Angeles Junior Kings and the California Wave. He later attended Lake Forest Academy in Lake Forest, Il. where he excelled on the ice and in the classroom. He finished out his Midget Major years playing on the Prep Team and serving as their Captain. Also during this time, Bill played Midget AAA 18u for the Russell Stovers Stars in Kansas City. Bill has received numerous awards including the Steward Award for Senior MVP at Lake Forest Academy, Mid West Prep All Star Team honors for 2 years and attended the USA Hockey Select 14s, 15s, 16s and 17s National Festivals.
Bill played 4 years of NCAA College hockey at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts and University of Wisconsin River Falls. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Pre Medicine. He went on after college to play professionally in the CHL for the Bloomington Prairie Thunder before a serious ankle injury ended his hockey career.
After playing, Bill transitioned into coaching. Bill has coached for the Highland Park Falcon’s youth hockey program and for Lake Forest Academy Prep School both outside of Chicago, IL. In 2011-12, he coached the Highland Park Falcon’s 1998 Bantam Minor Central States team to a league runner up title and 3rd place in Illinois. Bill also coached the Lake Forest Academy Women’s Varsity team that same year. In 2012-13, Bill coached the Highland Park Falcon’s 1998 Bantam Major Central States team to a league championship, Illinois state title, and a National Championship 3rd place.
Upon moving to Orlando in 2013, Bill has had success at the Bantam and Midget levels with OYHA. In the 2015-2016 season, he took the 5th seed U16 AA team to the State Championship game where they fell short to the past seasons National Champion. Bill’s focus is on skill development, character development and moving players to the next level.
